The New Netflix doc on the Depp V Heard trial isn’t making the waves it could of.
It’s been a big month for Netflix releases, but not as big as one would think. Recently the new action Gal Gadot film, Heart of Stone came out on Netflix to less than positive reviews. It seemed that it got a good amount of views but fell short of being memorable in the end. More than likely, it’ll sink into the numerous original Netflix movies we forgot about.
This Week we got the three-part documentary series on the infamous Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial that occurred last year. For those who didn’t follow or didn’t want to lose hours of their life as I did, the trial was interesting, to say the least. It had too many viral moments in it to count. Some silly, some annoying, and some shocking.
They both had a nasty divorce and one thing led to another, and Heard was on trial for defamation. The whole thing was live-streamed for the world to see, and Depp cleared his name with a win in court.
Well, that was a year ago and in today’s rapidly changing world, what was popular yesterday is old news. More celebrities are doing wild things and getting sued like the singer Lizzo, and people are not really talking about the Depp V Heard trial we saw a year ago. For this, the documentary seems to be suffering.
The ratings on IMDB are rough for the Depp V Heard documentary. As of today, it’s sitting at 4.6 out of 10 with only around 1,000 reviews. Many of those reviews claim the documentary is one-sided and focuses on the social media frenzy this trial spawned. For those who kept up with the trial, the social media frenzy was all we saw, meaning this documentary seemed to not offer anything new.
If there was a documentary to be made about the Depp V Heard trial, it might have been worth considering releasing it either a couple of months after the trial or years after. If it’s months after, it’s fresh on people’s minds and a nice recap. If it’s years after, people might have forgotten a couple of things about the trial and might like to see the story again to refresh their minds.
