Once only on streaming, the popular show Yellowstone is coming to television to fill the void.
SAG is on strike, meaning all actors in the union cannot work or promote any of their movies. This means any project that was in production, no matter the progress is halted for the time being until an agreement is reached between the workers and higher-ups. What we are seeing is something that hasn’t happened in sixty years. Any project that is being made right now is going to be delayed, whether that be TV shows or movies, anything that has actors in it cannot be made if they are in the SAG union.
With this going on, major networks are fumbling around, looking for content to fill the void. With weekly sitcoms, dramas and such being on hold, these major networks are looking for some help. So CBS is taking some of the programs they had only on the Paramount streaming site to their TV broadcast this fall. The biggest coming to TV is Yellowstone, which was one of the most popular shows on the Paramount streaming service. Yellowstone will begin broadcasting from season one onward. CBS is going all in with this transition by also adding the show “Seal Team” to its live broadcast lineup later this year. Another show that made big waves on the Paramount streaming service.
After all the talk of TV Shows becoming streaming only and no longer on TV broadcast itself, this is a very different change up. With CBS being one of the first major services to do this amidst the strikes, it will be interesting to see if other services do the same and if it becomes a trend. At this time, the only other service to do this is ABC, who is bringing the MCU show, “Ms.Marvel” to its live broadcast later this year in the fall. That show was only on Disney+, the streaming service.
