The delays continue with the Emmys while SAG is still on strike.
This year’s Emmys are postponed and this is the first time since 2001. The awards were delayed then due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The news of this year’s delay has come from vendors being told the ceremony will not be happening on September 18 as previously planned. Of course, all of this is due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes going on right now.
As of now, there is no new date for the Emmys. But we can expect Fox to put out something here in the coming weeks. Right now, it is being speculated that January of next year is the new date. But this is all speculation, as the awards will not occur until an agreement is reached with the unions. There is no real way of knowing when this will occur. During the writers’ strike in June of this year, we saw the Tony Awards take place still, but being unscripted.
About two weeks ago, the nominations were announced just before the SAG strikes started. We saw The Last Of Us become the first live-action video game adaption to be nominated for a major award. The strike itself has put all current film and TV shows on hold. With all the buzz right now at the box office with the new Barbie and Oppenheimer films, it seems a drought might be near. Going to the movies soon might be a good idea before fewer and fewer films are released.
If the strikes continue and no agreement is reached in the next few months, there will be a lot fewer new films and shows for us to watch. If they continue for even longer than that, we might be looking at little to nothing coming out. Of course, some shows and films are still coming out on the same dates they announced, but only those a couple of months out from release. I believe the Emmys being postponed is the of the many major delays to come; we will see.
