Project Sirius, a multiplayer-focused offshoot of The Witcher, has begun development from the ground up.
It is actually pretty impressive how The Witcher series has built up such a deeply created world of Slavic folklore and dark fantasy, peopled by morally ambiguous characters such as Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri. Its storytelling encompasses a number of themes: destiny, free will, love, and betrayal-all that with epic visuals, either from the stunning open-world design in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or the Netflix show’s cinematic production.
Out of the five Witcher games under development at CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 4, 5, 6, The Witcher 1 Remake, and The Molasses Flood’s Project Sirius interest gamers most because it’s set to be open-world multiplayer games with single-player components.
This development is targeting a bigger audience. This game, supported by CD Projekt Red, could be quite similar to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Valhalla, and Origins. However, it is set in the Witcher universe and is also said to be possibly one of the most innovative games ever to grace the Witcher franchise.
Now, this seems to be extremely exciting about this game since it really shows the expansion of the Witcher franchise and IP. There is a fact to love that they are not going to be having the mainline Witcher 4, 5, and 6 games try to target a wider audience by trying to please everybody, the same way the Assassin’s Creed franchise went down.
Though it is currently an open-world title and an RPG, The Witcher also has a lot of narrative and backstory, which will probably be carried on and referenced in the mainline Witcher titles. But with The Molasses Flood, we don’t think we will be finding prior characters or Geralt and Ciri; instead, we will be meeting brand-new characters placed on this planet as we explore it.
This game is said to have multiplayer elements. Thus, it seems that there won’t be a set character like Geralt or Ciri for this game, but rather, it will be our own characters. So, we can interact and discover other players and our friends, go on quests with them, fight huge monsters with them, and kind of have that monster hunter experience within this open world, too.
This game was actually restarted last year since they intended to resume development to save early expenses and finally match the project. Adam Kaczynski, the CEO of CD Projekt Red, discussed this when he remarked that although it was a difficult decision to make, we also think it was the correct one.
CD Projekt revealed in the process that it had already put approximately 10 million dollars into the creation of the multiplayer game, announcing it would be resuming Project Sirius more than a week ago. Especially with a project that is fresh to us in terms of design generated by a new studio in our family, we must experiment and be courageous when attempting new roads, stay in control, and keep the right track to be innovative. We must continuously assess the matter; it is advisable to decrease expenses early on and, should necessary, even restart rather than continue.
The fact that they watched this game, however, excites me greatly since they abandoned it but still wanted to pursue it. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red is experimenting with this property and has great faith in this vision—something different. Furthermore, intriguing is the notion that it is a separate initiative and won’t compromise their flagship single-player releases.
Since the Witcher series is now known, we also truly think that this game will have an amazing narrative. This fantastic open-world RPG with excellent narrative quality is well-known. These are thus the things I believe will still be present in this Molasses Flood’s Project Sirius game; it could very much be an MMORPG Lite title and be a game they support for years and years to come upon its success, of course, with brand new stories and brand-new expansions similar to a game like Final Fantasy XIV.
This game could take place in a different timeline or period than the mainline Witcher stories and maybe be set even further in the past, where perhaps you could choose your own Witcher school and have exclusive privileges and abilities depending on what Witcher school you have chosen and then have this huge open world with quality stories and side quests with a quality Valhalla which you could then continue on your own or play with friends and there could also be things which you have seen in an MMORPG like dungeons and monster raids and just like Monster Hunter.
There is so much potential with this new multiplayer game. It is so exciting that CDPR is trying something new. They are experimenting with something totally different but also keeping those elements that have made them successful in the past, and perhaps upon the success of this online Witcher game, and we may even be able to get a cyberpunk online game, which we are assuming suits cyberpunk very well. There are so many stories you can do with that, too.
Arriving at its release date, The Witcher 4, might potentially occur in 2025 as, according to speculations, work has advanced greatly. It might even be in its closing phases of research and release towards the end of 2025. Right now, this game is merely being labeled as a multiplayer game with single-player elements, but the basis of this game and what it will actually be are kept under wraps.
