The year may be close to ending, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still some highly anticipated games on their way.
2023 has undoubtedly been an excellent year for gaming. We’ve had absolute gems such as Street Fighter 6, Baldur’s Gate 3 and Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. Despite the few gems, there have also been some disappointments, such as Lord of The Rings: Gollum and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The year is far from over, though, so here are some releases still to come; from ports to DLCs, here’s everything 2023 still has to offer.
1. Dune: Spice Wars (November 28 2023)
If you grew up with the original Dune movies, you would know that Cryro Interactive made a phenomenal 4X game that loosely followed the story of the David Lynch movie. Dune: Spice Wars is our modern equivalent developed by the acclaimed Northgard, this time based on the Frank Herbert movie universe. Players will be tasked to lead their faction to battle for dominance over the desert planet of Arrakis. Dune: Spice Wars console version is releasing on November 28 2023.
2. SteamWorld Build (December 1, 2023)
Now, we’ve seen a dime a dozen city builders here on GamesCreed, who all use the same sleek and modern cities, but don’t you want something more fantastical? Look no further than SteamWorld Build, a city builder set in a wonderful steampunk world where players must build steampunk cities and infrastructure to keep their citizens happy. SteamWorld Build is the latest entry in the SteamWorld setting and is developed by The Station. SteamWorld Build is set to release on December 1, 2023, for PC and console.
3. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (December 7 2023)
When the first James Cameron Avatar movie was released back in 2010, we got to experience the world of Pandora through the video game medium. Ten years later, we once again get to experience the beautiful planet of Pandora but with all the bells and whistles. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was initially meant to be released alongside Avatar: The Way of Water but was sadly delayed.
The game promises to give players a standalone experience set on the planet of Pandora. Much like before, the game is developed by Ubisoft and seems to offer gameplay similar to the developer’s Far Cry series. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to release on consoles and PC on December 7 2023.
4. The Day Before (December 7 2023)
If you’re a fan of survival horror, you are probably familiar with the upcoming multiplayer open-world survival horror game. The Day Before is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the United States after the world has become overrun with the legion of the undead. The game was initially supposed to be released on March 1, 2023, but was sadly delayed as the team behind the game, Fntastic, planned on switching over from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, but the game seems to be on track for an early access release. The Day Before is releasing for PC on December 7, 2023.
5. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (December 1, 2023)
Dragon Quest is one of those video game series that has been around forever, one that has garnered many spin-offs such as the beloved monster-catching spin-off, Dragon Quest Monsters, and the latest entry, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, seems to return players to a familiar place.
Players will play as none other than Psaro from Dragon Quest IV and must become a monster wrangler on a quest for revenge. Psaro must explore the ever-changing world of Nadiria to find strong monsters with the help of the half-elf Rose. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is being released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023.
6. Deca Police (TBA 2023)
There are always two sides to a story; in the case of Deca Police, there are two worlds of investigation. Deca Police is an intense crime-suspense RPG made by none other than Level-5, the creators of the Layton series. You play as Harvard, a rookie detective who must hunt down the various criminals plaguing the vast city they call home. In order to gather as much information as possible, Harvard must travel between both the real and virtual worlds. Deca Police is releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.
7. Gnosia (14 December 2023)
There’s nothing quite like Gnosia, a Sci-fi Social Deduction RPG that is set aboard a drifting spaceship. It is now up to you to try and figure out who is telling the truth and who has been replaced by the “Gnosia”. You’re probably thinking, wait, didn’t Gnosia release last year? And you would be correct, but sadly, this unique RPG developed by Petit Depetto was only available on PC, and now we’re finally getting a console version of this must-play sci-fi RPG. Gnosia will be released for consoles on December 14, 2023.
8. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (TBA 2023)
The world of Warhammer 40,000 is a world of violence and glory, so it would only make sense that it just so happens to be the perfect setting for a brutal, third-person hack-n-slash. In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, you play as a lieutenant in the Ultramarine chapter.
Titus must redeem himself and fight off the forces of Hive Fleet Leviathan, who have invaded the worlds of Avarax and Kadaku. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the sequel to the first Space Marine game and is developed by Saber Interactive. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is releasing on consoles and PC sometime in 2023.
9. Eastward: Octopia (TBA 2023)
2023, indeed, has been the year for cozy farming simulators, and what better way to end the year off than with one to venture into the cozy life? In Eastward Octopia, we once again get to see Sam and John in a brand new DLC for Eastward, where they both have to start their new lives as farmers living off the land.
While this is certainly a new direction to take the game, it is always nice to just take it easy sometimes. This new DLC for Eastward will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023.
10. Freedom Planet 2 (TBA 2023)
There’s something so nostalgic yet timeless about pixel platformers, and there’s no better example than Freedom Planet 2. As you can tell, Freedom Planet 2 is the sequel to the first game and is set in the world of Avalice. Players play as Sash Lilac, who many believe is the last water dragon in existence, who has a unique combat style involving fighting with her pigtails. Sash must face off against an all-new evil in the form of the Evil Merga. Freedom Planet 2 console version will be released sometime in December 2023.
Bonus:
Here are some highly anticipated games that have yet to get a release date but ones that may still surprise us, and who knows, they may be released now or be something to look forward to in the following year.
Dragon’s Dogma II
Dragon’s Dogma is a phenomenal cult classic RPG that seemingly brought the best elements from the action RPG and effortlessly fused them with elements from games like Monster Hunter. The sequel, Dragon’s Dogma II, seems to expand on many elements that made the first game iconic, such as destructible environments, fearsome scalable monsters, and a brand-new dynamic weather system. There is currently no known release date for Dragon’s Dogma II, but it is a game we cannot wait to play.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Speaking of cult classics, who could forget the highly anticipated Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2? While development for the game has fallen silent, we did get a taste of what a sequel would play like through Vampire The Masquerade: Swansong, which added many more modern changes to the franchise, such as the controversial voiced protagonist. Much like Dragon’s Dogma II, there is sadly no set release date, but who knows what 2024 will have in store for us.
Skull & Bones
If you’re a fan of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, then you’ve probably been keeping your eye on this epic pirate game from Ubisoft. Sadly, development has fallen radio silent, but that doesn’t mean the game has been outright canceled. The game promises to let players sail the high seas and gain both infamy and ill-gotten wealth. Skull & Bones has no set release date but will likely be released sometime in 2024.
