As the date for the trailer gets closer, we expect to see some new stuff added to the GTA 6.
Undoubtedly, some things in Grand Theft Auto V have aged well. Though the single-player aspect of the game was lacking to keep up with new technology or cars, multiplayer kept the title alive for the past ten years with additional content such as missions, returning single-player characters, and so much more.
Still, people thought that some important bits were mission from, even in multiplayer, and addressed this issue to Rockstar with no positive feedback from the developers. Now that the GTA 6 is on the way, with a new crew behind, we can easily expect some sides of the franchise to change. At least, we can hope that it does not. Here are the 8 things we’d love to see in the new Grand Theft Auto game.
Female Protagonist
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: People have wanted to go through the story of a female character for a very long time. Other competitors such as Saints Row or Watch Dogs have already accomplished that goal with their regularly published games, but Rockstar has only employed male characters since the first Grand Theft Auto game. No matter; thanks to the leaks, we can easily expect to see a female character take the role in the game unless Rockstar makes a crucial decision to take her out of the storyline.
We had seen that some leakers mentioned the theme of the next game would focus on the once-famous Bonnie and Clyde, who managed to pull the biggest heists of the time. Bonnie, a female, had to be created; therefore, playing as a female character became real.
Story That Takes Lore into Account
This is going to be a hot take, but the way Rockstar approached the story in GTA V was more lenient towards something out of a movie rather than tying up what has been going on in the universe Rockstar created. So far, every game in the franchise, including games that take the matter of previous and post-events in the mainline games, has been a great way to build the GTA Universe.
Take the GTA IV example, where Rockstar was able to expand the story by giving players the perspective of two different sides with Episodes from Liberty City DLC. GTA V had none of that, and the cliché characters made it worse to bear the story. What we would like to see in the next game is at least a writing that covers old and innovative ideas that make the story at least addicting to go through.
More Homages to Old Titles
As a game, Grand Theft Auto has still been played by many, whether older or newer games. Although many people would like to experience the new title, old games are still considered the best if you ask many people who love the franchise. What could be the best while playing the new game is the mention of old characters or something related to old information given in the game. GTA V did this by mentioning Grove Street, a gang you are responsible for turning around during the events of San Andreas, in a conversation between two characters, and even that was enough to make people interested and create speculations
Better Handling Cars
There is no doubt that Rockstar does act a bit suspicious while making the code for car handling. Since the 3D era began, every game has had a different variety of handling cars, and obviously, IV was the most realistic according to many. You’d think the next game would improve upon the driving physics, but we ended up getting the complete opposite. Despite running on the same engine, GTA V’s driving physics were dumbed down heavily and didn’t make any sense. We hope that Rockstar considers the handling model and delivers something at least favorable.
It is hard to ask for something realistic of Rockstar as they have started to steer away from the more realistic approach to many events, but driving is a big part of the game, and it is important that they get it right for GTA 6.
Less Scripted Events
While playing games, the game itself might trigger a few events to continue the story or showcase its legitimacy in being more realistic. Of course, the scripted sequences became more and more subtle as games became more advanced, but games like Grand Theft Auto V still employ scripted events to be blatant rather than subtle. The whole burglary, random events, meeting freaks, and gang wars tended to be a chore and easily skippable mandatory parts of the game rather than trying to give a realistic feel for it.
To give out a living city vibe, Rockstar should find ways to make it so that scripted events are not as much up into people’s faces in GTA 6, or alternatively, they can occur randomly around the city instead of being fixed to one single place.
Destructible Environment
Back when GTA V’s trailer came out, we saw a glimpse of a truck crashing into a wall and bringing it down. Since we had no idea about whether it was a part of the mission or not, most of us believed that bringing the wall down part was available during regular gameplay. We were quite in disbelief once we got to play the game and learned that Los Santos was not dynamic at all, and the part was only made for a specific mission instead.
We know it might just force the engine and halt its mechanics if Rockstar tried to implement destructible buildings or walls. Still, the current technology- and some old to a degree- completely allows such an addition. It would be cool to see a more dynamic map. GTA 6 will surely be an advancement over the previous title, so it is possible to see certain places on the map having spots to be destroyed.
Story DLCs in the Later Years
Like how some games were extended later on with games that take the previous events before the main title, the new game could also benefit from such an addition; we have been craving for such DLC since GTA V had none. Funnily enough, non-serious single-player DLCs were planned for each character after the end of the game. Trevor was planned to be a special agents unit while Franklin had to find his way out in a zombie apocalypse.
While it would have been a good addition, something like a storyline DLC where you would take control of another key character instead would be amazing. We hope that Rockstar does not only focus on the multiplayer only when GTA 6 starts getting heat like the previous one.
Being Able to Play a Finish Product
It sounds very odd to say this, but in the current year, AAA studios tend to employ the “Release first, fix later.” tactic, which frustrates the player more than ever. Rockstar is one of the last-standing companies that delivered a fully finished product for the release instead of releasing games first and then dropping a 60GB first-day patch. It has been more than ten years- not counting Red Dead Redemption 2– since Rockstar released a proper GTA entry. We hope to see that their tradition of not disappointing the player base continues.
Although Rockstar’s quality control has been deteriorating for the past few years, let it be the porting GTA V to PS5 and Xbox X|S platforms or trying to bring back classics but failing at doing so. We still believe their mainline game, the title that made them billions, is enough for them to be on top of their game.
So, we are getting ever so close to finally seeing a glimpse of the next game, and we all have different expectations and speculations about GTA 6. Undoubtedly, it will be grand, but it is also important to satisfy everyone’s expectations about it. We hope to see at least a few items from the lists that were Rockstar’s priority. What would you like to see being implemented or fixed in the upcoming title?
