From playing as great mythical figures to slaying giant monsters, RPG fans are in for a treat in 2024.
It’s safe to say that with all of the showcases that took place this year, there are quite a lot of games to look forward to, especially if you’re a fan of RPGs. Here’s a list of some of the games we are most excited about in 2024, in no particular order.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden (13 February 2024)
Fans of The Witcher Games better keep their eyes peeled for this upcoming action RPG. In Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, you will take on the role of a ghost hunter, as well as their spectral companion. Together, players will need to hunt and put to rest dangerous spirits that have become twisted from their grief and need to utilize both the power of the living and the dead to do so.
If you’re interested in playing the game, you don’t have to wait very long. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden will be released on 13 February 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (29 February 2024)
When the Final Fantasy VII Remake was released, the game swiftly became a favorite of new and old players, but that was only the first part. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be the next chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake saga, and the story from where Cloud and his friends left off will continue. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the same story as the original Final Fantasy VII game but with quite a few changes.
Cloud and Friends will continue their journey on 29 February 2024. Like the game before it, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will initially be a PS5 exclusive.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (TBA 2024)
The original Vampire: The Masquerade games are some of the most beloved cult classic RPG games and were first released back in 2004. For years, fans have been swarming for a sequel, and luckily, the developer, The Chinese Room, is here to deliver. The game has a bit of a rocky development cycle, but luckily, there seems to be light at the end of this tunnel. Players will once again play as an elderly vampire who must prowl the streets of modern Seattle, seeking both blood and power.
Long-time fans will undoubtedly be happy to know that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be releasing sometime in late 2024 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Witcher 4 (TBA)
Despite the story of the White Wolf, Geralt coming to a close in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this won’t be the last venture we have in the world of The Witcher Games. Currently, we don’t know much about the game aside from a brief teaser trailer released by CD Projekt RED back in 2022. What we do know is that the game will be made in Unreal Engine 5 and is currently codenamed Project Polaris.
This highly mysterious and anticipated next entry for The Witcher has no set release date, but we will likely learn more about the title sometime in 2024.
Dragon’s Dogma II (22 March 2024)
The Dragon’s Dogma series is an RPG that struggled when it first launched in 2012. However, the series has amassed a cult following, and we are finally getting its long-awaited sequel. Dragon’s Dogma II is an Open-world RPG in which the player takes the role of the Arisen, who must retake their hearts from the evil Dragon that plagues the world.
Dragon’s Dogma II greatly expands on many mechanics that made the game memorable, including scaling monsters and using your environment to your advantage. The game will even be taking us to a brand new, never-before-seen continent.
The Arisen will once again be able to take up arms on 22 March 2024, and the game will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Fable (TBA 2024)
If you grew up in the 2000s, then the Fable games hold a very special place in your heart, and now we get to experience them again in this upcoming remake. The game will be a new reimagining of the original games and will feature action-styled combat, open-world exploration, and in-depth item crafting. Currently, we don’t know much about the game, but if it stays true to the original games, then we might be in for a treat.
The Fable remake will be released in 2024 on PC and Xbox series X|S.
Where Winds Meets (TBA 2024)
Most of the time, RPGs like to turn to worlds of myth and fantasy to build their settings, but what about history? Where Winds Meet is an upcoming Chinese RPG set after the fall of the Tang Dynasty. The gameplay seems to be heavily inspired by games such as Ghost of Tsushima and The Witcher. We see our young hero utilize a large arsenal of weapons ranging from swords to polearms as they slay their enemies in this fantastical version of ancient China.
There is no set release date for Where Winds Meets, but developer Everstone Games is most likely aiming for a 2024 release date. The game will be available on PC and possibly get a console port.
Avowed (TBA 2024)
If you’ve been a fan of the Elder Scrolls, you’ve probably been keeping an eye out for this upcoming RPG. Avowed is a first-person action RPG set in the remote region of the Living Lands, and you will take control of an envoy from the Aedyr Empire, an individual with immense magical ability. Alongside an arsenal of spells, players will be able to use maces, swords, and even firearms as they try to root out the cause of a great plague affecting the Living Lands.
We know little about the game, but we do know that it will be released in 2024 as an Xbox Series X|S exclusive and on PC.
Black Myth: Wukong (TBA 2024)
Alongside Where Winds Meet, we will also get another Chinese action RPG, Black Myth: Wukong. We will play as the titular Wu Kong and encounter many creatures and myths seen in the Chinese folktale Journey to West. From what we’ve seen, heavy emphasis is put on the game’s combat and cinematic boss fights.
As impressive as Black Myth: Wukong looks, we sadly don’t have an actual release date, but it is safe to assume that Game Science is aiming for a 2024 release date for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Greedfall 2: The Dying World (TBA 2024)
Now, the first Greedfall game was a bit rough around the edges, and by the looks of things, developers Spiders is giving it another whirl. Greedfall 2: The Dying World is set three years before the first game’s events. This time, players will play as native members of the Teer Fradee who have been driven out of their home island by a mysterious force. Players will now have a chance to explore the world of the old continent, Gacane.
There is no set release date for Greedfall 2: The Dying World, but we know it will be released for PC sometime in 2024.
These were just some of the RPGs coming in 2024, but plenty is on the horizon.
